Year 2 AS

Welcome to 2AS!

In Year 2 we explore a broad and complex curriculum that inspires us to think creatively, write with passion and interest and solve mathematical problems.  Take a look at what we've been up to recently...

2AS 2024-2025

Welcome to Year 2

Science- Curly Wurly Challenge!

Our new Science topic this term is materials. This week we have been looking at how we can change materials. We have explored different materials and tried to change them by twisting, bending, stretching and squashing. Following from this we decided to take on the Curly Wurly challenge and try and break the world record which is set at a Curly Wurly being stretched to 4.2m. The children had a lot of fun trying to recreate this challenge and beat the world record! Our longest Curly Wurly in class managed to stretch to a full 2m!

Computing- Editing selfies

In computing this half term, we have been learning all about photography. To begin with we looked at how technology has advanced our ability to take a photograph. Following from this, we were learning how to take a photo using the Ipad and looking at different styles of photographs and how to take a good photo. Recently we have been using the computers and learned how to edit a photograph and add effects to our photos. We did this using some selfies that we took!

Science Animals including humans

In year 2 we have been learning all about animals including humans. We have been looking and learning about different animals and categorising them alongside matching them with their young. We have also been learning all about what animals and humans need to survive. Recently we have began looking at a healthy diet and what a human is required to eat to ensure that they are staying healthy.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

During Macmillan Coffee morning we enjoyed a cake a juice with our grown ups. We ate some yummy cakes and biscuits and enjoyed having a chat with our friends.

Our quiet reading corner!

We love to read in 2AS and we enjoy spending quiet time in our reading area. We love to share fun stories with our friends!

Hello Yellow Day

This term we have celebrated Hello Yellow Day. Throughout the day we talked about the importance of mental health and how we can support and look after our peers. We had class discussions around what makes us happy and took part in activities that we enjoyed and made us smile.

PHSCE Week

We read 'The New Jumper' and learned about how we should celebrate our differences. We talked about how it is important to be ourselves because we are all unique and special in our own ways. We drew our own characters from the book and designed our own jumpers that were all unique! We used different materials and colours to collage the jumpers.

During this week we also read the story 'Frog is Frog' following this story we spoke about the importance of embracing our own individual talents and how we should celebrate them. We also wrote a letter to frog to let him know that he shouldn't be sad and should celebrate his own talents.

Literacy: When the Dragons Came

Our class story this term is set in a perfect place called Poppledown Town... but the people who live there are in for a shock when dragons arrive! What will the dragons get up to? Will the people and the dragons ever be able to get along? We can't wait to find out!
