Dolphin Class(Hub2)
Centre for Life
The children had a fun-filled day at the Centre for Life. They enjoyed exploring the WOW zone where they used pushing and pulling forces to move objects. They were amazed by the science show watching bubbles turn into fire and enjoyed relaxing in the planetarium to watch the Little Bear show.
Three Billy Goats Gruff
The children showed great enthusiasm towards the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We retold the story as a sensory story and the children used puppets, props and musical instruments to help them retell the story. They were able to use some of the key repetitive language from the story.
After we read the story, we decided to make a picnic for the hungry goats. The children used chopping, slicing, spreading and cutting skills to make a sandwich and then enjoyed eating it for their snack!
In art, the children painted goat masks and used these to help them further explore the story.
Three Little Pigs
After reading the story The Three Little Pigs we used story spoons and puppets to help us retell the story. The children loved using the repetitive language in the story to help them retell it.
We followed visual instructions to decorate a pig biscuit and used communication boards to help us communicate what they tasted like. We used play-doh to make 3D models of the three pigs and we used natural materials to build houses for the three little pigs.
Forest Friends - Autumn Walk
In Forest Friends we have been focussing on autumn. We read the story The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming and then went on a walk to collect our own leaves. We found lots of different coloured leaves to represent autumn. We then used these leaves to create art work.
PE
In PE we have been practicing our throwing and catching skills.
Whatever Next! - Jill Murphy
The children thoroughly enjoyed reading Whatever Next! as a sensory story and they responded enthusiastically to all of the props. They were then able to use some of the key language from the story whilst retelling the story.
In maths we chose a rocket number and counted stars to match the rocket. The children could recognise the numbers that they chose and could accurately count the correct amount of stars to match the rocket.
After reading the story Whatever Next! the children used 2D shapes to print and made a junk modelling rocket ship.
Forest Friends
We had our first Forest Friends session this week. The children were excited to meet our new forest friends characters. They listened to the story Stanley's Stick and we went on our own adventure through the trees looking for items that had fallen from the trees. We found lots of sticks, pinecones, berries and leaves and we used these in our mud kitchen!
The children had lots of fun playing, running, exploring, painting and creating!
Music
In Music we have been listening to familiar songs and using the samba drums to find the beat of the music.
