Welcome to Year 2

2AS 2025-2026

Science Curly Wurly Challenge

Our new Science topic this term is materials. This week we have been looking at how we can change materials. We have explored different materials and tried to change them by twisting, bending, stretching and squashing. Following from this we decided to take on the Curly Wurly challenge and try and break the world record which is set at a Curly Wurly being stretched to 4.2m. The children had a lot of fun trying to recreate this challenge and beat the world record!

Florence Nightingale

Year 2 have been learning about the famous historical figure, Florence Nightingale, as part of their work on significant people. The children discovered why she is known as ‘The Lady with the Lamp and how her work helped to improve hospitals and nursing. The class took part in an exciting hot-seating activity, where they asked and answered questions in role. We even had some wonderful dressing up, stepping into the shoes of Florence herself to better understand her role and importance.

Making Healthy Wraps

We have been busy in Design & Technology, learning about healthy eating while designing and making our own delicious wraps! We explored different fresh ingredients, researched a balanced diet, and carefully assembled their wraps using their own designs based upon a healthy balanced diet.

Beach School

We had an amazing time at beach school! We listened to wonderful stories with Mrs. Raeburn, explored the beach to collect natural items, and used them to create our very own sculptures. It was a fantastic day filled with creativity, learning, and fun. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

PHSCE Week

We read 'The New Jumper' and learned about how we should celebrate our differences. We talked about how it is important to be ourselves because we are all unique and special in our own ways. We drew our own characters from the book and designed our own jumpers that were all unique! We used different materials and colours to collage the jumpers.

During this week we also read the story 'Frog is Frog' following this story we spoke about the importance of embracing our own individual talents and how we should celebrate them. We also wrote a letter to frog to let him know that he shouldn't be sad and should celebrate his own talents.

RE-  Prayer Mats

In RE this term we have been learning all about the religion of Islam. We have discussed and looked at what a day in the life would be like if we followed this religion. We have learned all about prayer and how to prayer following this religion. In recognition of this we designed our own prayer mats following the designs similar to prayer mats that are used daily.

Computing- Editing selfies

In computing this half term, we have been learning all about photography. To begin with we looked at how technology has advanced our ability to take a photograph. Following from this, we were learning how to take a photo using the Ipad and looking at different styles of photographs and how to take a good photo. Recently we have been using the computers and learned how to edit a photograph and add effects to our photos. We did this using some selfies that we took!

Science Animals including humans

In year 2 we have been learning all about animals including humans. We have been looking and learning about different animals and categorising them alongside matching them with their young. We have also been learning all about what animals and humans need to survive. Recently we have began looking at a healthy diet and what a human is required to eat to ensure that they are staying healthy.

Literacy: When the Dragons Came

Our class story this term is set in a perfect place called Poppledown Town... but the people who live there are in for a shock when dragons arrive! What will the dragons get up to? Will the people and the dragons ever be able to get along? We can't wait to find out!
