Physical Development

At Sea  View Primary, we believe that physical development is a fundamental component of our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, vital in supporting children's overall growth and well-being. Gross motor skills are essential for larger movements that involve the coordination of arms, legs, and the entire body. We provide a variety of activities that encourage children to engage in active play, such as running, climbing, jumping and playing ball games. Our outdoor playground is equipped with climbing frames, slides, and open spaces where children can explore their physical capabilities, fostering confidence and encouraging teamwork as they interact with their peers. We also incorporate structured activities such as dance and movement sessions that stimulate their creativity while enhancing their coordination and rhythm.

In addition to gross motor skills, we place great emphasis on the development of fine motor control, which is crucial for everyday tasks and later learning. Our children engage in a multitude of hands-on experiences designed to refine their dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Activities such as threading beads, manipulating playdough, using scissors to create art, and engaging in painting or drawing are all integrated into our daily routines. These activities not only enhance fine motor skills but also promote focus, patience, and perseverance, essential attributes for successful learning.

Nursery

In our outdoor space, we really focus on developing gross motor skills through a variety of fun activities. The kids absolutely love travelling around the area, whether that’s running, hopping, or exploring different surfaces. Balancing on logs and beams adds an element of challenge and helps with coordination. Jumping off small heights, like logs or soft mounds, gets their hearts racing too! Plus, we often use crates for carrying and building bridges and dens, which not only strengthens their muscles but also sparks creativity as they design their own play structures. It’s amazing to see their confidence grow through these activities in our forest school setting!
