Literacy
At Sea View Primary, we take great pride in fostering a strong foundation in literacy for our youngest learners in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Our approach is centred around creating a rich and engaging environment where children can explore the world of words through a variety of fun, interactive activities.
We employ a structured phonics programme that focuses on teaching children how to decode words using systematic and enjoyable methods. In addition to phonics, we place a significant emphasis on developing comprehension skills. Through storytime sessions and guided reading activities, our children are encouraged to think critically about the stories they encounter. We prompt discussions around characters, settings, and plotlines, engaging young minds and nurturing their ability to express their thoughts and ideas.
At Sea View Primary, we are dedicated to nurturing a community of confident communicators who can articulate their thoughts and feelings effectively. Our holistic approach ensures that children are well-equipped with essential literacy skills as they embark on their educational journeys.

Reception
We have loved developing our core strength and hand/arm muscle strength to support early writing skills through fun dance activities and mark making using large media. By moving our bodies to music and practising large, flowing movements, the children are strengthening the muscles needed for good posture, control and confidence in writing.
In Reception, the children have been exploring mark making and early writing through Drawing Club. They have been practising writing simple words and sentences while using their imagination and creativity. Carefully chosen stories and exciting stimuli have helped develop the children's vocabulary, encouraging them to use adventurous language as they talk about and record their ideas. This approach supports confidence in writing, communication and a love of storytelling.
The children have loved developing their oracy skills through a range of engaging story-based resources. Small world themed tuff trays have encouraged imaginative play, story-telling and discussion, while speaking and listening equipment has supported the children in sharing ideas, retelling stories and listening to themselves and others. These activities help build confidence, vocabulary and strong communication skills in a purposeful play-based way.
