Mr Wolf's Pancakes, by Jan Fearnley. Read aloud by Nigel Planer.

We have enjoyed making our own pancakes to celebrate Shrove Tuesday. We made a list of ingredients that we needed to make some delicious pancakes. We helped to measure out and mix the ingredients before watching them cook in the pan. Once they were ready, we chose our favourite toppings from strawberries, blueberries, syrup, lemon juice and chocolate drops. They tasted delicious!

We investigated 3D shapes in maths. We learnt the names of the different shapes and explored making models using the different shapes. We could also sort different objects into the different 3D shapes.

To start the New Year we are focusing on the topic about animals and this will be evident in our weekly learning. Have a look at this week's story.

This week we are learning about and celebrating Chinese New Year!

Story Time: "The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac" by Dawn Casey

Join us for a story time reading of "The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac" by Dawn Casey!

We enjoyed learning how to share equally in maths today! The tiger had baked some delicious cookies and needed to share them with the rat. We had to make sure that they both had an equal number of cookies!

We had great fun in PE dancing to Chinese music with streamers! We also played the drums while having a dragon parade!

Maths is fun!

This week we have been introduced to subtracting as taking away. We used objects to help us to solve the subtraction number sentences.

P.E. Balancing and travelling in different ways

After reading the story, “the tiger who came for tea”, we made our own sandwiches. We talked about what our favourite sandwich fillings were and what we could add to make them healthier. We chose which type of bread we wanted and which filling. We then thought about what we could add to make our sandwich even better, e.g. adding cucumber. We used knives safely and with good control to spread butter on the bread and then to cut our sandwich in half.
We then had our own little tea party and sat with our friends to enjoy eating our delicious sandwiches!

P.E.

We had great fun in P.E. this week!

Mad About Minibeasts!

The sun is in the sky and it's a lovely summer's day. The minibeasts have seen you and they want to come and play!

We enjoyed finding out how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. We sequenced the pictures and could explain how the caterpillar grows from an egg. We talked about how the caterpillar becomes a cocoon before growing into a beautiful butterfly.

We explored measuring and comparing the length of the different sized caterpillars. We used the cubes to match the size of the caterpillar. We then counted how many cubes long they were and wrote the number down. We could say which caterpillar was the biggest and which was the smallest.

We have looked at a range of different minibeasts. We sorted them into minibeasts which have legs and minibeasts which do not have legs.

We asked our friends which minibeast was their favourite and we recorded the results in a table. We used the results to find out the most popular and least popular minibeast.

We used a range of junk materials and natural materials to create our own minibeast hotels.
